Gorillas/chimpanzees are primates that have a rating of 95% DNA to humans. Congo gorilla safaris expose you the human-like creatures.
They are hairy primates with a hairless face. They have big chests and long shoulders. Gorillas have relatively long arms with large fingers at the end. They also have a ridge of bone running from the top at the skull to the bottom of their feet.
We basically have two gorilla species. There is the lowland gorilla which is also known as western gorilla. They are found in West Africa and west of Congo River. We also have mountain gorillas that are found in east and central Africa.

During a gorilla trekking in Congo, you interact and view mountain gorillas that always live in groups of close to 30gorillas.
These groups are known as troops. The troop is headed by one adult male gorilla called a silverback.
Silverback gorillas are very fascinating primates. They are called silverbacks because of the silver hair laid on their backs to their thighs. They are heavier and larger than the female gorillas.
Did you know that silverbacks are 6 times stronger than the human(man)! This is so because they are protectors of other gorillas in their troops against other dangerous animals.
Silverbacks can be happy but at the same time aggressive. Would you want to see them angry!! Take a Congo safari and on a probability, you might be lucky to capture that memory.
These endangered species are believed to approximately be around 700gorillas left. They are normally found in the tropical rain forest climates.
Gorilla trekking is worth it…
Gorilla trekking in Congo and gorilla trekking in Uganda has greatly and equally contributed to tourism industry in both Uganda and Congo. Foreign exchange earning has also improved intensely through tourism in these countries.
Though, on the other hand, lowland gorillas the males in particular, are having a risk of being attacked by heart disease conditions. The heart condition is known as “fibrosing cardiomyopathy” which attacks gorillas from the age of 30.
These gorillas are also poached, hunted and also used for consumption purposes in countries like Congo at the Congo basin. This shortens the numbers of gorillas in their different habitats.
Gorilla reserves are also highly destroyed by man. They are replaced with road activities, commercial logging interests or even subsistence farming. This makes gorilla survival difficult.
Never the less, amidst all these challenges, different bodies have been inaugurated to help in preserving and protecting of the wildlife and gorillas in particular. This has helped to increase tourism in the particular places and to also be able to maintain the remaining gorillas.
