Day 1:  Up on arrival in Kigali, you will meet the safari guide at Kigali international airport waiting to take you through your 4 days safari. Depending on your time of arrival, you can do a Kigali city tour to Gisozi genocide memorial centre where you will view photographs, video clips and artifacts of the genocide. After lunch you embark on a 6 hours’ drive to Bukima in Virunga national park. A Congo Visa is secured at Goma. You arrive to your hotel in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Day 2: The Congo gorilla trekking tour, is done on your second day after breakfast at your lodging facility. Gorilla trekking starts at 8:00am after briefing by the park rangers at the park headquarters. The trek could last about 3 hours after which you come across the gentle giants and only 1 memorable hour is spent with the gorillas. After the trek, you can embark on a community tour then return to your hotel for relaxation and dinner.

Day 3: On the third day, just after your breakfast, your driver guide will transfer you to Kibat station where the hike to Nyiragongo begins. The hike to the summit usually takes about 6 hours depending on your energy levels. The hike is tiring but what await you on the top are good scenery of the lava lake found nowhere else. During the hike you see several bird species. You will spend the night at the summit cabins with meals that can be prepared by the porters.

Day 4: On day 4 you embark on a descend from the summit of Mount Nyiragongo back to Kibat. Your driver guide will be waiting for you at the station and transfer you back to Kigali international airport for departure. You have lunch in Kigali and visit some craft shops for craft purchase before the driver takes you to the airport for departure.

The reason for the start and end of the safari in Kigali Rwanda is because it’s the closest international airport that has daily international flights. Goma international airport in Congo has international flights once a week on Saturday by Ethiopian airlines and the return flight is done after 7 days.
